Lash extension aftercare: how to keep a full set full

Lash aftercare still life with a brush, cleanser and silk sleep mask on linen

How long your lash extensions look full depends on two things: how well they are applied and how you care for them afterwards. The first part is our job. The second takes about a minute a day.

The first 24 hours

Lash adhesive keeps curing after you leave the studio. For the first day, avoid getting your lashes wet and skip steam, saunas and hot workouts. This gives the bond time to reach full strength.

Cleanse every day

It sounds counterintuitive, but clean lashes last longer. Oil, makeup and dust weaken the bond and can irritate the lash line. Use an oil-free lash cleanser, apply it gently with a soft brush, rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Brush them into place

Once your lashes are dry, brush them through with a clean spoolie. It keeps the set looking neat and separates any lashes that crossed overnight.

Keep oils away

Oil-based makeup removers, cleansing balms and rich eye creams can soften lash adhesive. Choose water-based or oil-free formulas around the eyes.

Hands off

Rubbing, pulling or picking at extensions takes your natural lashes with them. If one feels twisted or uncomfortable, message the studio instead of removing it yourself.

Sleep smart

Sleeping face-down crushes lashes into the pillow. Try sleeping on your back or side, and consider a silk pillowcase or a contoured sleep mask that doesn't touch the lashes.

Skip the curler and mascara

You won't need them, and both can damage extensions. Mascara in particular is hard to remove without pulling on the lashes.

Book fills on time

Everyone sheds a few natural lashes every day, and each extension leaves with its lash. A fill every two to three weeks keeps your set looking full and avoids needing a whole new set.
